The heart of newsgathering and news reporting is always people. In this program, you will leave the class knowing how to gather original information firsthand, primarily through interviewing, observation, and training to do on-the-street style video interviews. The course will engage in the importance of interviewing, why in-person interactions are so critical to good reporting, how interviews contribute to verification, and the art of an effective interview. In the classroom, we will do drills and live examples, and we will work together to come up with a final assignment where students will ultimately work on a group project that culminates in a socials-focused video made with real people outside of the classroom.
